Southbend SSB-36 Description
For food service establishments that need to produce high volumes of food products every day, the Southbend SSB-36 Platinum Series Steakhouse Broiler/Griddle is a godsend. This gas-powered 2-in-1 combination has a griddle that’s perfect for searing meats and locking in juices before they go to the broiler.
With its stainless steel front, back, sides, cradle, and carriage, this unit is built to last for a long time. Southbend has been producing high-quality equipment for the foodservice industry since 1898. You can expect Southbend’s taste for innovation and exacting eye for detail applied in the SSB-36 Broiler/Griddle.
The broiler uses radiant heat to quick-cook all sorts of meats. Each variable burner control valve lets you control the heat of individual sections of the broiler. This is great for broiling a variety of food items that cook at different temperatures. All knobs and handles are cool to the touch so you don’t have to worry about burning your fingers.
The griddle broiler rack sits on a smooth track with concealed roller bearings so you can slide it out to place your food items. You can set the rack in nine positions using a paddle release mechanism. The grids are chrome-plated, allowing them to heat up faster and retain heat for longer periods of time. The chrome plating also keeps food from sticking to the grid, making it easy to clean. A 7 3/4-quart grease drawer collects the grease spills from all that broiling. At the end of the day, you can simply remove the grease drawer and dispose of the grease before washing the drawer.
The griddle on top is the perfect addition to the broiler, allowing you to prepare steaks, kebabs, sliders, and other meat dishes on the ample cooking surface, which measures 31 3/4” wide by 28” deep. The 1/2”-thick plate heats up faster and recovers faster when it comes in contact with cold food items. To keep the surrounding walls and equipment from grease splatters, the plate has 4” splash guards on the rear and sides. It also has a removable grease catch that can store up to 2 1/2 quarts of grease drippings.
The Southbend SSB-36 is mounted on a 27 1/2” equipment stand. The stand has an open shelf for extra storage, adjustable legs, and optional casters. You also have the option to get a cable restraint kit to lock the casters and keep the broiler/griddle from moving around when in use. This unit can also be mounted on a countertop, a cabinet base, or a refrigerator or freezer base. Southbend offers its own line of high-quality refrigerator bases that you can also check out.
You can also avail of a 7 1/4” front rail at no extra charge. For an additional fee, you can add square belly bar mounts to the 7 1/4” front rail. Another option is to add a front rail that has five cutouts for placing saucepans.
